This zone includes the natural catchment of Richmond, the Waimea Plans and the valleys feeding into it. The area is defined as that falling within the following boundaries.

A line following, but not including, Saxton Road extending southeast to meet a line running from Clovers Knob to Gordon's Knob, including all of Aniseed Valley Road.

A line northwest from Gordon's Knob crossing Stock Road at Reay's Hill, to Spooners Saddle on Highway 6.

From Spooners Saddle (and including Pretty Bridge Valley Road) follow the ridge to Cut Hill on the Moutere Highway.

Then a line from Cut Hill (including Stringer Road) to the northwest end of Westdale Road.

Then a line northeast around the northern end of Rabbit Island and southeast along the coast to meet a line curving between Rabbit Island and Monaco from the end of Saxton Road.

Applications for Enrolment

Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone. A signed declaration that the intending student lives within the home zone will be required when enrolling. Additional proof of residence within the home zone may be required.

Out of zone enrolments

Students who were attending Waimea Intermediate before the implementation of this enrolment scheme may continue to attend-whether or not they reside in the home zone. Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

First priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
Second priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
Third priority will be given to applicants who are children of board employees.
Fourth priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
