AMENITIES DONATION

This is set by the Board of Trustees and this year will be $50 per child or $75 per family. The donation is used to extend the ability of the school to provide for students. Payment is considered important to overcome the relatively low level of government funding. A request for this donation will be sent out in Term One.

ASSEMBLY

 Assembly is held each week

ATTENDANCE

A note or a phone call is required before 9.00am if a student is absent. The reason for the absence should be stated. A note should be sent when they return.

HOURS OF SCHOOL

8.55 am - 3.00 pm.
Lunch 12.30 pm - 1.20 pm.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Waimea Intermediate considers applications from international students. Details are available upon request. The school observes and supports the code of New Zealand practices for international students.

LOST PROPERTY

Please check that all items of clothing, especially tops are named, so they can be readily identified. Lost property items are stored near the library.

LUNCHES

A variety of healthy lunches can be obtained daily from the school canteen, ordered before school. For those going home for lunch, a pass is necessary.

LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES

Because many of our students travel by bus, a wide variety of sports and coaching is offered during the lunch period.Equipment is available from classrooms and the sports shed.

MESSAGES

Only urgent messages will be delivered to students. In emergencies, students have the use of a telephone, but must first obtain permission from their homeroom teacher and the office.

NEWSLETTERS

These go home each Thursday with students to keep parents informed and involved with school events. They are available on e-mail and the Website. Requests to office@waimeaint.school.nz

PARENT HELP

The school encourages parents to become involved in school life by visiting, by helping, and by taking an interest in their child 's activities and performances.

PARENT-TEACHER GROUP

This group is very active in supporting the school. We appreciate the valuable contribution they make and encourage more parents to join the organisation. Contact Ange Harris. Tel 544 1035

PERSONAL PROPERTY

Students are not to bring personal items, such as toys, ipods, CD players, collectibles and electronic games to school. Cell phones are not suitable for school  While some students may carry them they will be confiscated for increasing periods if they come to the attention of staff. We accept no responsibility for any such property.

HOMEWORK

Homework will relate to revision, practice or support of class learning activities.  It may not be set every night and should not normally take longer than 30 minutes.  Regular reading at home is encouraged.  The development of effective habits along with positive attitudes creates an advantage for studnest at this stage.

LEADERSHIP

Opportunities for leadership are promoted and available to students.  These include being a class councillor on the school council, leading student initiatives, running class and school activities, representing the school, helping others around the school and other opportunities in class and module programmes.  Students are also involved in canteen and office duties.

SCHOOL BUSES

Students travelling by bus will sign a behavior contract.. Exemplary behaviour is expected on all buses.  There will be consequences for inappropriate behaviour.  Bus enquiries can be made to the school office or Suburban Buses.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

This group of nominated representatives from each class meets weekly with a staff member, and is involved in a range of school wide leadership activities.

SUN HATS/SUNSCREEN

The school encourages positive sun smart practices.  At this age students are supported to take increasing responsibilty for their personal sun protection.  Compulsory hat policy applies during high risk activities such as swimming and athletics sports, beach and other outdoor trips during risk times, and some camp situations.  At other times students are encouraged to take responsibilty for making healthy decisions.

STATIONARY

Students will be issued with a list of requirements at the beginning of the year. All items can be purchased at school at competitive prices. It is necessary for us to add $15.00 to each student 's stationary account to cover the cost of photocopy stationary.
